A Goodreads user asked Jeanne Ryan:

Hello! How did you get through the process of putting your works to a publishing company and how your book turned into a movie? My friend and I have collaborated to write a book on wattpad and we would like to get some advice to get our book published. Thx for reading this and the link to our book is down below! https://www.wattpad.com/241594719-the-last-one-standing-wattys2016-prologue

Jeanne Ryan Hi Anya - Like most writers, for me this was a very long process. First, I wrote a lot. Then I queried many agents over the course of three years. I signed with an agent after I'd written three manuscripts, and then she began to submit to publishers. After two years, during which time I completed two more manuscripts, we got a book deal for Nerve. My agent worked with a screen rights manager to option the rights, and we were lucky enough for it to eventually become a movie (most optioned books do not).

All in all, a lot if time, work, persistence, and luck were involved. I wish you and your friend well in your endeavor!
