I'm a retired scientist. As such, I don't outline my stories. I spread sheet them. With a spread sheet, I don't need to write linearly. I bounce around to whatever part of the book strikes my interest. If I'm having trouble writing a section, I switch to another section somewhere else in the book or to another book altogether. I then insert my cursor to the appropriate spot and keep on writing.
