How do you decide when to add your own personal flair to the historical fact and when do you decide to omit a part of history to benefit the story?

Personal flair fills in the spots where history leaves gaps, or at least that's my take on it. As far as leaving some part of history out, often it's because I simply don't have space to include every detail!

I know that you've done meticulous research in such detail that I feel like I've been there when I've finished one your historical fictions. Have you ever considered Russian history? I am fascinated with the last Tsar and what happened to his family. You would blow us away!
