Kaleb Murphy asked David Dalglish:

This question contains spoilers… (view spoiler)

David Dalglish Hah, yes, technically the right answer is he needs imprisoned to match the continuity in all the other Dezrel books. But that's not exactly the 'story' reason, is it? With Ashhur, we tried to show how in the final book he was slowly becoming more and more like his brother, which in turn meant he was turning his own back on all he was meant to represent. In the final conflict, it could have been just Karak imprisoned, but only if Ashhur had chosen to spare him. But for the briefest moment he gave in, dragged down throughout the war to his enemy's level.
