Goodreads asked Roland E. Williams:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Roland E. Williams My advice....write, write what you know, and not too soon. Write outside the box, get a style all your own.
Listen to experienced writers, but don't write like them, do your own writing. There are so many genre writers now, that when you've read one book, it is as if you've seen that somewhere before. And you have, but just a different story idea.
You can be a good, or even great writer, without being a best-seller, but if that's what you want, go ahead. There's still plenty of room for more best-sellers.
