Goodreads asked Reagan Colbert:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Reagan Colbert I had been writing for five years, trying to finish a book, and failing. One night, when I was particularly hopeless, I laid everything down, and told the Lord that I wasn't going to try anymore. That I was no longer going to pursue a career as an author, or publishing a book. I said that I did not choose myself, my life, or my career. I chose Him. I chose to follow Him and His will for my life, and if that meant I would never be published, never become an author, then I would accept that.

He answered me with "The Hidden Soul".
And if that wasn't amazing enough, He then handed me a sequel, "Soul Set Free."

The idea itself came on Palm Sunday 2016, when watching various renditions of the Passion on TV. I realized that of all the versions of the Greatest Story Ever Told, there was one point-of-view that had never really been shown:
Through the eyes of the man who crucified Jesus.
From there, God pretty much just handed me a story of a Roman soldier, who embarks on an adventure to find salvation.
And that kind of ended in a published book. :)
