Darcy asked David Wong:

how did you feel about the changes of your book for the movie JDatE?

David Wong I loved the movie, the changes that were made were either due to length (a movie script is 70% shorter than a novel that size) or to the realities of production (the stunt dog was male!) but at every turn I felt like he tried to make a movie that was even more like the novel than the novel. That's not how it would have played out if the rights had been bought by a huge studio who spent $75 million making it - they'd have been forced to iron out the weirdness. The movie definitely did not do that.
