Goodreads asked Rachel Caine:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Rachel Caine Look, there are two different problems people lump together. One is you don't WANT to write, and one is you CAN'T write.

There are a lot of reasons you CAN'T write for a limited time. Physically illness or disability. Stress of many kinds. But think of it this way: that's sick leave, and you have a limited period to get better or figure out an accommodation to get working again.

But not WANTING to write is entirely different. Your day job doesn't let you not do the work because you're not inspired. You get inspired, or you do the work because it's the work.

It's in your power to work, if you're not physically or mentally disabled from doing so (see: sick leave). So figure out how to motivate yourself. Make deals with yourself: write just a sentence. A paragraph. A page. But the deal is, you have to write more every day. Don't let yourself stall out and edit. Only move forward.

You'll look back and realize you've got your momentum again.
