Oh my!! I'm not sure why I didn't see this before now, but I'm so sorry! To answer your question, I did mean to say "butty" which is one who mines by contract, at so much per ton of coal or ore. Specifically, in English coal-mining, one who takes a contract, or is a partner in a contract, for working out a certain area of coal. I hope that answers your question.
