Does this take place before or after the Rangers Apprentice novels? In other words, can I read this before reading the Rangers Apprentice books?

But even in that book we don't see Will or Halt. I would recommend reading Ranger's Apprentice first, but I think you could read either and still get the same amount of enjoyment from them.(less)
