No. Will you get more enjoyment out of them? Yes. If you skip some in the middle you might find yourself wondering how a specific event happened, or how certain characters got to certain points, but the story itself is a complete story. You just miss out on back story. That said, I loved the whole series and think it is much better if you read it as a whole. (less)
