Elise There is character and relationship development that carries over from one book to the next so you will, for instance, find out that a character dies if you read them out of order but the stories themselves are pretty stand alone. She adds in enough of a summary of previous books that you wouldn't be super lost.
Crissy Moss Do you have to? No. Will you get more enjoyment out of them? Yes. If you skip some in the middle you might find yourself wondering how a specific event happened, or how certain characters got to certain points, but the story itself is a complete story. You just miss out on back story. That said, I loved the whole series and think it is much better if you read it as a whole.
