A Goodreads user asked Jennifer A. Nielsen:

Hi Mrs. Nielsen it's me Alice again. I'm sorry that I am bothering you because I am asking a lot of questions but every time you Write back to me I get really excited I mean really excited. So I was wondering what were your favourite books that you like to read? And how did you become and author? Also how long would you say takes you to finish a story? I am really sorry for asking so many questions. Bye and thank you!

Jennifer A. Nielsen Hi Alice! I read all kinds of stories, which I think is important because it keeps me well-rounded as an author. Right now I'm reading a WW2 historical, a non-fiction book about high altitude climbing, and am about to start a fun, Fairy Tale type story.

Becoming an author is usually a long process. For me, once I began writing well enough to get published, I still had to find an agent, and then my agent had to find the right publisher.

How long does it take me to finish a story? That depends on the story, the research involved, and other commitments in my life. My quickest write was "A Night Divided" (6 weeks). The longest was Mark of the Thief (9 months).
