I realized, upon becoming an official senior citizen, how much insight I had gleaned from my past. Especially from the painful stuff. Longfellow's The Ladder of Saint Augustine resonated with me: "Nor deem the irrevocable past, as wholly wasted, wholly vain, if, rising on its wrecks, at last to something nobler we attain." I thought I'd like to have an older woman with a painful past as the main character, and how she uses the lessons from those experiences to create a better life for herself and those around her.

I'm reading The Widow of Larkspur. I don't know when I've enjoyed a book so much! It has delicious morsels to chew slowly and savor. Wonderful book! I'm a freelance writer of sorts (non fiction). Do you have any advise for someone who wants to try to write fiction but doesn't have a clue how to go about it?
