James Rollins
James Rollins asked Rebecca Cantrell:

Speaking of memorable characters, as a veterinarian myself who has populated his novels with animals in the past, you've presented Joe Tesla with a special companion, a four-legged accomplice named Edison. Can you tell us more about his furry fellow and why you decided to pair the two up?

Rebecca Cantrell Edison is Joe's psychiatric service dog. He helps Joe deal with his anxieties so that he can function. It's a complex relationship, but it's not a complicated one--Joe loves and needs Edison and vice versa. Edison keeps Joe grounded and can always be relied on to recognize down to earth problems which Joe might miss because he lives so much in his head.

As for pairing them up, you have to take some credit for that! Early on, I talked to you about Joe and his life under New York City and you said "Won't he be lonely? Doesn't he need a dog?"

I thought about it, researched psychiatric service animals and decided, that , yes, he DID need a dog. So, thank you!
