It’s no coincidence the author put her character into this story with a fuzzy memory - not recognizing ppl, or recognizing them incorrectly as her own family. I’m guess she confused the killer as her husband, he killed her- police and stuff transpired, but you’d think that happening (full trash bags not full of trash, being removed) would be news too big for the narrators mother to keep from him.
