Are you or have you ever been a D&D player? I ask, as the Greatcoats series is probably the best treatment of how awesome a bard-type character could be, which is how I've recommended the series to fellow gamers.

Sebastien de Castell It's funny that you ask, because I've never really made the connection personally between the Greatcoats and bards, but now that you mention it, in those few times I played D&D it was always as a bard. When I was sixteen, my favourite book was "Bard" by Keith Tailor and it had a big impact on my life and career choices. Apparently it's had an impact on the Greatcoats, as well!

I guessed pretty early in that Aline was the kings daughter. What I don't understand is how she wasn't aware. Particularly after the exchange between Ethalia and Aline. "Ethalia smiled at the girl. 'Your father would tell you differently little one. Shall I speak his name aloud?' Aline froze at that." Would you mind explaining that passage if Aline in fact was unaware that the king was her father? Thank you!
