I am planning to switch genres in writing, from adult mystery to upper elementary grades. What I'd like to know, is there an actual word count that the editors like for that age group?

In By-Pass, does Bobby have a stutter or a stammer? For example of stammer see Colin Firth in The King's Speech. Whereas in a stutter, the person can utter the first letter of a word but cannot seem to get the rest out and in a stammer, the entire word seems to be lodged in the throat.
