Izzy Quigley
Izzy Quigley asked Millie Florence:

if i want to write my first book, how complicated should i make my story?

Millie Florence That is entirely up to you. You must know your own heart and story best!

However, these are the rules I set for myself when I wrote MY first book, Honey Butter:
1. No more than 30k words long.
2. Must be realistic fiction, set in the real world with no fantastical elements.
3. Must take place in a single town.
4. Must revolve around the growth of a single character.
5. "Write what you know."

That worked for me at age 13, but every writer is different! You must find what works best for you. However, most young writers indeed err on the side of making their first story too complicated, rather than too simple.
