Dima asked this question about Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl, #1):
I have an 8 and a 9 year old daughters. Will this series be appropriate for them to read this summer?

I tend to find them mediocre and trivial at best. The humour is often of a low form, the plot and language will often be more understandable only to older children, and there is plenty of swearing thrown in. I'd recommend something more wholesome and beautiful like George Macdonald's The Princess and the Goblin (though I'm not sure at what age this would be easy for children to read by themselves).
