I have an 8 and a 9 year old daughters. Will this series be appropriate for them to read this summer?

michelle engle I was 10 when I read them.
FaeDragon It matters how mature they are. Do you want you're kids reading about kidnapping? I personally would be fine w/ it, but it's your choice.
Samantha I read these books when I was 7 or 8 and I was fine with them. There's nothing really inappropriate going on in any of them.
Martyn Personally I'd avoid introducing the Artemis Fowl series to children while there are better books to be found. I tend to find them mediocre and trivial at best. The humour is often of a low form, the plot and language will often be more understandable only to older children, and there is plenty of swearing thrown in. I'd recommend something more wholesome and beautiful like George Macdonald's The Princess and the Goblin (though I'm not sure at what age this would be easy for children to read by themselves).
Mike Stickler That's awfully young and there may be a couple of areas where the plot gets a little intense for that age group. Also I think they may have some issues following some of the vocabulary and plot threads. I would probably say 11 or 12 year olds would have better luck... Now if it's something you are going to read to them or have them read to you I think it's one of the safer books in the YA / Fantasy genre.
