Hi Ms. McMann, I just wanted to say that the Unwanteds series has inspired me so much. I love the world-building the best-Artime is awesome. It's my second favorite series of intermediate books (and that's pretty impressive for me). What age group did you originally picture reading the Unwanteds? And was the actual group of readers what you expected, or was it different? Because I am 14 and love it :)

Hello Jillian,
I'm so glad you love the series. I think people of all ages have really embraced The Unwanteds series. I originally wrote it with my kids in mind, who were 12 and 9 when they helped me come up with the idea. But by the time the first book actually came out in stores in 2011, my son was 17, and he still loved it. He's now 22 and my daughter is 19 and they are still some of my first readers (they get to read the books before they come out). :) I hope you enjoy the Unwanteds Quests series as well -- no one is ever too old for books like these.

Ok... So like a few other questions people have asked my heart is also shattered after Dragon Bones. If you're so sorry about the ending, why? Why would you do that? I know you probably can't actually answer that so I guess my question is... Is is hard as an author to write in the death of a character you've been working with for years?

Hello Lisa, I am a huge fan of your series, but I face a dilemma, I’m re-reading the Unwanteds so I can get into the Quests, but I accidentally came across that Alex died. I was very saddened as I’m sure you and everyone else is, but after finishing the originals in under a week, I’m not sure if I can face Alex’s death. My question is, is the death worth it in the end like I’ve heard mentioned? Will I survive?
