Sage came to me through a song by Eddie Vedder (lead singer of Pearl Jam) called "Guaranteed." A line in the song said, "I knew all the rules, but the rules did not know me, guaranteed." From that song, I got the idea for a character who could say such a line. And once I had Sage, I had the whole story.
