Goodreads asked Zara West:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Zara West First of all WRITE! The more you write the easier it gets and the better you will get at writing. Second, STUDY! Take writing classes and workshops. Read books in the genre you want to write. Listen to criticism and learn from it. Third, FINISH. No matter what you think of what you have written don't stop and start something new. You have to live inside the book you are writing, and it's really hard to live a double life. In my experience, abandoned books are rarely finished. It's just too hard to get back into the story.
