Writer's block happens to me when I am trying too hard. If the writing isn't fun, I stop. I go for a walk. I read a book. I garden.

First of all WRITE! The more you write the easier it gets and the better you will get at writing. Second, STUDY! Take writing classes and workshops. Read books in the genre you want to write. Listen to criticism and learn from it. Third, FINISH. No matter what you think of what you have written don't stop and start something new. You have to live inside the book you are writing, and it's really hard to live a double life. In my experience, abandoned books are rarely finished. It's just too hard to get back into the story.

I am working on Book 2 in the Skin Quartet series. This book tells the story of the kidnapped tattoo artist from Book 1 Beneath the Skin. When the ex-international crime boss she once loved is taken hostage by his former partner in crime, a Williamsburg, Brooklyn tattoo artist must decide to run for cover or risk her life to save him.

I started out with a character desperate to find a missing friend. What would she be willing to do? Would she be willing to model nude for a disfigured artist?

I begin with a character. I imagine that person. I imagine living inside the person's skin and wondering what terrible things [I write suspense] can I have happen to this person that will tear them apart and let them grow and become a hero or heroine.

I love being able to imagine myself as my characters, living their lives, experiencing the world through their personal viewpoint.
