Jess (freaks over books) asked Danielle L. Jensen:

I just wanted to thank you for using references to awesome historical figures like La Voisin in Hidden Huntress. I love how myth and fairy tales are laced throughout your books! Do you read or study a lot of french history, folklroe or myths?

Danielle L. Jensen Hi Jess!
I love using little historical tidbits in my novels, and I always appreciate readers who notice them.
I don't spend a lot of time studying any particular aspect of history, but I do have a degree in English literature that provides me with a lot of historical material to draw from. Sometimes, the characters, places, or elements are inspired by things I have already studied (court masques is a good example), and sometimes I know I want to include a particular element and I'll do some research to find a historical example to draw details from (La Voisin, Montmartre, Melusina, and Queen Lamia are all examples). It has always been my preference to let the plot of the novel direct my research, rather than letting research direct the plot of the novel.
