Owen Nelson asked this question about Pet Sematary:
Is it a good book for my 10 year old son to read. Take in mind our governer Rick Perry called him A reading mastermind. He is very advanced but still is all the death talk still too much?

We watched all the screenings together and at home we only talked about Pet Sematary. We were not afraid. Now we are still obsessed with Stephen King's books. If your child has read other books by the same author, he or she should be familiar with the writing style. In Pet Sematary, death is a major theme. If your child is afraid of this, he may not need to read this book. But isn't that one way to teach him that there's nothing scary about dying? Normal process. If he reads about it, he will see for himself that these things are not real (like my sister). However, every child is different. If your child is used to children's books, it is not good to read Pet Sematary yet. But you say he's advanced in reading. So why not? In addition, King himself describes Pet Sematary as his most terrifying novel. But I started with the most tumultuous. Introduce your son to the book. If necessary, tell him some spoilers. If he finds it too scary, he won't read it. If it is interesting to him, he will turn to it himself. This is my personal opinion, but you as a parent know your child well and know what will scare him and what will not.(less)
