Cheral asked Arthur Graham:

Why do so many writers drink?

Arthur Graham I think a better question might be why so many drinkers write. As a lot we tend to be a bit damaged in certain ways, whether as a cause or effect of the drinking, and writing presents an outlet by which to voice some of those things we'd sooner escape through the bottle. Of course, this does nothing to stop us drinking, and probably at least some of us come to depend on alcohol as a means of liquid courage in the creation and presentation of our work. I'll have to admit that I've leaned quite heavily on this crutch at times myself, but ultimately it just drags us down when we can't even seem to walk without it.
