(view spoiler)[At the end of Skull Throne it seemed every queer character was dead, revealed to be treacherous/evil, or both. I went from feeling great about the representation in the book to feeling gutted. The "shocking" reveals and the totality of it all left me cold. Was this to punish queerness itself via the narrative as some authors do, thoughtlessness, or what? Will the next book be markedly different? (hide spoiler)]
Peter V. Brett
Absolutely not. Neither the gender nor sexual orientation of a character is in any way related to their good/evil alignment (if you believe in such things) or their fate. There are still several queer characters still alive, and some (like Soli and Selia Barren) who are clear heroes. There are also several characters whose sexuality is yet to be revealed, simply because it has not yet been relevant to the plot. I am sorry you got a negative impression from how things turn out, but I want to state clearly and for the record that it was in no way a statement on my part.
As the story progresses you may also find, as has been the case in previous books, that some 'evil' characters aren't as bad as you might have first thought once you get to know them a little better.

My Dad is the one that recommended your books to me. Luckily (for me), my Dad has great taste and never a shortage of suggestions. Have you ever been suggested a book you didn't enjoy? Or have a book suggested that surprised you and opened you up to a whole new world to explore? (Just in case you are curious, your world I am completely enthralled in at the moment)
