A Goodreads user asked this question about Tarkin (Star Wars):
I'm trying to read all the star wars books in chronological order, mainly using the timeline at the front of Dawn of the Jedi but this isn't on it and I really want to read. When should I be reading this?

This novel is part of a new canon which began in 2014. For more information on the new canon, you might want to check the timeline at the beginning of the newest novel "Aftermath: Life Debt". You can also read the timeline of canon media on wookiepedia, or the Del Rey Star Wars timeline (http://www.randomhousebooks.com/campa...).
In terms of reading order, you have multiple options, you can pick and choose which canon novels you wish to read (or vice versa), and read them in a pattern of Canon, Legends, Canon, Legends, and so on. Or you could disregard one timeline and choose to only read one, thus lightening your reading load.
In the canon timeline, this novel takes place between Lords of the Sith and A New Dawn.
Sorry for the long answer, but I hope this helped.(less)
