Hello Ruta! I'm a YA librarian & a fan of your books- my teens really love them! I remember when Between Shades of Gray and Fifty Shades of Grey came out and were being confused with each other- it was funny! Anyways, I could really picture your books as movies; if you could cast the four narrators in Salt to the Sea who would you choose? (If this ever happened, I hope they bring you in for scripting!)

Hi Christina!
Librarians are my heroes! Thank you so much for recommending my books to your teens.
My first novel, "Between Shades of Gray" is currently in production as a film. It's so exciting! You can see photos on my public FB page:

"Salt to the Sea" has been optioned and is in development as a film but it's still in the early stages. In terms of casting characters, it's so hard to say! But for Joana, Emilia, and Florian I would look for actors who could master nuance as all of the characters are hunted, and haunted, by secrets and lies.
Crossing my fingers that "Salt to the Sea" eventually moves from development to production!

Hi Ruta! Firstly, I love your books so much! They have inspired me and introduced me to the world of historical fiction and I now think that I want to become a historical fiction author when I am older..! :) My questions are: What is your favourite bit about writing historical fiction that is different to writing general fiction? And also What are the things that inspire you to write most? Thank you! :)

Hi Ruta! Since your novels are based on real events I know you have researched a lot in order to write them. Has anything you ever read or learned while researching -like a testimony from a survivor- changed you personally or changed the way you did something in your life? Also, I read "Between Shades of Gray" and I loved it, I even cried while reading it. One of my favorite books ever!

I'm reading Out of the Easy now, and I've already read Between Shades of Gray. I'm a huge fan of both! This question is about Between Shades of Gray: What really compelled you to write such a haunting and memorable piece of literature? Also, how much research did it take to make sure the book was historically accurate? Thanks!
