Dear Ruta, I regularly give book talks to my 12th graders. They include a brief read aloud. For example. What passages would you suggest to share with classes that would reveal enough but also conceal enough to get them curious about the novel? Hiw would you introduce the book to students in just a sentence or two? Oona Marie Abrams Chatham, New Jersey

(view spoiler)[Hello Oona!
How wonderful that you give book talks to your 12th graders. I sincerely wish my teachers would have done that! It can really drive interest in a novel - and in my case - the associated history.
Regarding your question - I recently did an interview with NPR about my new novel "Salt to the Sea." They had me read three pages from the scene where Florian is hiding in the chimney and spying down on the docks below. He sees and describes the pandemonium, women throwing their babies to people on decks, etc. Several listeners told me that they were intrigued by that scene.

Good Morning! At 6:47 this morning (12.08.15) I received a notification from Goodreads that Salt To the Sea had been listed for a giveaway. When I used the link to enter a message to the effect of "This giveaway is hidden" was received. I would love the opportunity to win this novel as I so enjoyed Between Shades of Gray. Any insight as to the situation with the giveaway? Thank you, Angela Ryser Bahling

Hi Ruta! I read your book, “Between Shades of Gray” when I was a little tot', and I just wanted to know, why the holocaust? What inspired your decision to write about this event? Does it have some sort of relevance to you or your family? Thank you for your coming response, Liz. :)
