The Baltic people were the inspiration. Much of the world is not aware that Stalin deported so many people to Siberia. I wanted to write "Between Shades of Gray" to create an awareness and also give voice to the people who never had a chance to tell their story

Hi Ruta! Do you have any plans to adapt your novels into movies? I haven't read "Salt to the Sea" yet, but I've read (and absolutely LOVED) "Between Shades of Gray" and "Out of the Easy" and I think they would both make incredible movies. When I read books I picture them playing out as movies in my head and I would love to see your books on the big screen!
