Goodreads asked Kaki Olsen:

How do you get inspired to write?

Kaki Olsen It can be anything from a movie I'm watching to a literary pet peeve. I have a book series in which I address the fact that if you stumbled into Narnia in any setting other than Christian allegory, you'd have the average lifespan of a Stark bannerman. My debut novel was inspired by the thought that Swan Lake is too convenient for the lovers, who happen to find true love one magical night when the prince stumbles upon the swan maidens while hunting. I said to myself that this would never work if you only ever saw your family or all-night convenience store clerks. My #56 book idea came from a friend trying to name a warlord and considering "legionmaster."
