Hi! My name is Madison and I am a HUGE fan of your work. I myself, am working on writing. I compete in writing competitions and post my stories online. You being the successful and wonderful person you are, I was wondering, what has been your biggest struggle when writing your books? And how exactly do you conquer this obstacle? Thank you so much for your time.

Hi Madison!
That's so great that you are pursuing writing and competitions! Keep going!!
In terms of your question, my biggest struggle is something I never expected - time. I tour so much and spend so many days at events that it leaves very little time for writing. The way I conquer this obstacle is to set very strict schedules for myself. I get up very early to write and try to limit distractions. But it's still a challenge.
Again, keep writing!!

Hi there, I adored 'Between Shades of Grey' as someone with Latvian ancestry. I wondered how easy it was for you to research the lives of ordinary people in this time period ( I had a nana who always wanted me to write her story but I wouldn't have known where to begin)? Thanks, Lisa Farrell

Hi Ruta! I am a huge WWII history buff and I loved learning about a new exposed piece of history through Between Shades of Grey. It's personal question but I am from Michigan and was wondering what part Michigan you were from? Also if you were willing to come to Monroe County Community College sometime. There is currently a one book one community going on and they are WWII fiction.Yours would be a great addition!

Hi Ruta! I just finished 'Salt to the Sea', and it was amazing! Thank you for writing it, and for telling the stories that history so often forgets. My question is this: If you lived 200 years in the future, what current events would you be the most drawn to illuminating through historical fiction, and why? Thanks!
