asked:
I've watched season 1 of The Expanse. Is it still a good idea to read this novel after doing this, or does the series spoil the novels plot too much?

I was in the same boat - saw the series first.
The first season only takes you to half way (virtually exactly) in Leviathan Wakes. It certainly doesn't spoil the book, in my view. There are enough subtle differences to keep it interesting, plus the characters, as you would expect, are better drawn in the book.
I quite enjoyed the series, but absolutely loved the book.

Same for me. I saw The Expanse, got hooked, watched the whole season, and then decided to read the book. I just finished Leviathan Wakes and thought it was fantastic. Miller and Holden are phenomenal characters that are done much better in the book as well, which was a nice surprise. The show also helped form my imagination of the story as I was reading it, which was an interesting touch.
Fair warning though, Amos is much better in the show.
