I'm 23 and I loved it xD...
Yeah, I'd say older children 7/8+ is probably best. Then again, the violence is all against evil magical creatures and there are some good lessons about family here.

I'm 14 and I'm almost done listening to this series on Audible.

My kiddos were 7 and 10 when we went through them and I'm getting misty eyed just typing it. (*Acheingly* beautiful series of books. Right there with Narnia, in my mind.) And I suspect my 7 year old would've latched on at 6, too. But Peterson doesn't pull punches -there's real evil in there. So chalk me up for 7 as a floor, and there might be an age when teens would think themselves too cool for it, but I suspect one or two chapters out loud would cure that immaturity.
I'm envious of your getting to go through it for the first time with kids.
: ) Enjoy it.

We have listened to it via audible.com and my 12, 10, and 8 year old as well as myself have been unable to wait to get back in the car again. The 4 and 6 year old listen along and catch portions but it is more for the older age range.
