Most of your books are fantasy, but they often convey very realistic and profound themes. In what ways have your personal real-life experiences influenced your writing?

Cornelia Funke All writing is inspired by this world and reality and by our own life experiences. We can't imagine anything that isn't fed by this world! Fantasy is an especially powerful mirror of our reality because it makes us realize the strangeness of it. Imagining other worlds makes it so much easier to question this one.
