Zara asked Tommy Wallach:

I read your book some time ago and I just don't understand the ending,I know its supposed to be entirely on how its perceived by the reader and all but really is there supposed to be something more to it,frankly something more philosophical or thought provoking other than a person's optimism of sorts??

Tommy Wallach Hey Zara,

I wrote a rather long blog post on just this subject (http://www.tommywallach.com/post/1372...). But to simplify, the ending is certainly not about optimism. It's about uncertainty, and how being human means the acceptance of uncertainty. While that may seem similar to optimism, in my opinion, it's quite different: more like fatalism, really. Anyway, read the post, and perhaps the ending will make more sense for you? Thanks for saying hello. :)
