You are a master at pace: you rarely write lenghty passages and keep this up. How do you manage it, is it that you write much more and then delete everything that appears redundant when editing your novels?

Not at all, Iris. What you see is pretty much exactly what comes out, but of course I am revising line to line, day to day. But I have to feel that everything behind me is as good as it can be or I can't really move forward.

I love film but it can't capture human thought like fiction can. I admire (along with your very realistic-sounding, first-person voices), your interior monologue style. James Joyce and Virginia Wolff are among those, I think, (pun intended), who introduced interior monologue to fiction. Can you describe how your own, unique, third-person interior monologue style developed?
