Hi, Kimberly! First, thank you. As a queer young adult myself, I was 100% not expecting Amelia to be gay, and the reveal made me so happy that I literally cheered. My question is, what was up with Dylan? I upset that she was ignored towards the end of the novel, because (through Amelia) I'd really grown to care about her! Did she suffer from a mental illness of some kind? I'd love to know. Thanks so much!

(view spoiler)[Hi Lena,
Thanks so much for reading and so glad you enjoyed the book! Dylan certainly has some kind of social/emotional disorder (exacerbated because it was covered up by her mother)--I intentionally don't name which one. She wasn't capable of the same kind of connection, though, that Amelia felt, which is part of why their relationship was such a risk for Amelia from the start, particularly because it's the first time Amelia had been in love. Anyway, sorry to hear you missed Dylan! In the end, I think Amelia deserved--and would have found--a deeper connection and healthier relationship with another girl. (hide spoiler)]

Reconstructing Amelia is such a unique story. The way you told it left us guessing at every turn and waiting anxiously to find out what really happened and why. How did you come up with this story? Did it come to you all at once or did you have to think about it and go back and forth on how to handle the story?

My favourite part about reconstructing Amelia was the complicated relationship between Kate and Amelia and the ongoing question of whether parents really ever know their children. Was it difficult to write from multiple perspectives or did you feel it was the obvious choice for this story?
