Which piece of your work are you most proud of? Do you expect that to have changed in the next 10 years? 20 years?

I'm always engaged with the present work, of course, and I am proud of all my books--they show the evolution of a given author, i.e., me. So, e.g., I did not even consider rewriting or tinkering with the stories in the two collected volumes, T.C. Boyle Stories and T.C. Boyle Stories II. I wouldn't publish a piece I wasn't pleased with.

I recently finished the Best American Short Stories 2015 collection you edited. All of them seem to have twists and unusual moments in them that remind me of your work. How much latitude did you have for reading and choosing them? How many did you have to read before choosing? I like that your literary personality was reflected in the choices; do you know any of the writers?

Has there ever been discussion of of a screen adaptation for A Friend of the Earth? I cite it often during discussions of climate change deniers and count it among the most compelling dystopian novels, handled with satire that would transform into a series as engaging as the Handmaids Tale. I'd love to cast it! The time is right!
