In "East Is East" was it difficult to write that ending or did it seem the only logical way the story could end? Struggling to have the courage to end my stories in such a sharp manner.

T. Coraghessan Boyle It came to me in a flash, though I'd been struggling with it to that point. My favorite comment ever from a reader referred to it in a letter that read, in its entirely, "How could you kill him off like that, you little shit?"
