Goodreads asked Donna Everhart:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Donna Everhart I could fill a page here. 1) Write every day - even if you don't meet your goal, putting down one hundred new words or even editing material from the day before is better than nothing. 2) If you suddenly feel the urge to give up because you can't seem to gain any traction (acquire an agent, or your books aren't selling, or self-published books aren't doing as well as you hoped) play a little mind game. Act out your decision internally. Think about declaring to everyone who knows you and what you've been doing, "I'm done writing, and I'm going to do something else." How does that make you feel? That's your answer.
