Mandy I think they are rescued as she refers to 'a little new light in the sky, like a slow shooting star coming toward us'. I assumed this was a helicopter. The story ends on a positive point with arctic hares, her fingers warming and 'finding' her voice.

Margaret I would not recommend this book for children. I would recommend it for adults who wish to see one of the largest platforms for propaganda as an ending to a novel that held mystery and promise and dropped a boulder on anyone's heart with the weak ending for good fiction, a good ending for propagandistic purpose.
