Mrs. Taylor so sorry to pester and all that. But if I may; what is your advice in regards to getting your trademark snappy dialogue? I know it is a bog standard question but I am a bit of a pillock.
Jodi Taylor
Hi Seth, thanks for your question. I wasn't actually sure how to answer this, but I've taken a day or so to think about it so here goes:
I hear the conversation in my head as I'm writing. (Please don't tell anyone about The Voices!)
I try to keep dialogue short and punchy. No meandering paragraphs unless the story calls for them.
Everyone always remains in character. Dr Bairstow is always sarcastic, Markham is cheeky, etc.
I always try to end the scene with the punchline. Or vice versa. I think it diminishes the joke if the scene is continued afterwards.
I hope you find this helpful.
Best wishes, Jodi.

Can you please remind who Smallhope and Pennyroyal are. Which books have the appeared in? Clearly I need to go back and reread so I can remind myself who they are! Thank you for all the great stories! I absolutely love all these characters and have so much fun following them up and down the timeline!

Dear Jodi, On multiple occasions you have ripped out my heart stomped on it, used it in a game of kick ball, set it on fire before somehow making everything okay again. Your books are brilliant I have enjoyed all I have read to date and look forward to future musings of history, donkeys and the batty souls who accompany them. Thank you. Do you have a favourite dinosaur? they seem to drop in often.

Can you tell me more about Dr Bairstows car? In my mind I see it as a wonderful stately old style Bentley, which makes the way Max and Leon treat it even more outrageous, but perhaps you see it as a snazzy modern version? On the subject of Kindles the main reason I like it is that I can buy a new book in seconds without having to get the car out and drive for almost a hour to the nearest bookshop.
