Raylin asked Lisa Schroeder:

Hi Lisa my name is Raylin and I loved your book I read it the first time when at the age of 11 I am now 13 and still love your book I just have a few questions. What is the reason that you would Wright such a depressing book I mean I cried when I found out how avis boyfriend died and then again at the end of the book. What was your age when you decided to Wright this book? Why did you Wright this book. how long did it

Lisa Schroeder Hi Raylin, I'm so glad you enjoyed I HEART YOU, YOU HAUNT ME. I think the "why" question is a hard one for authors sometimes. Mostly, we write what calls to us. We write a story because a character won't leave us alone. We write a story because it's difficult NOT to write it. With this particular book, I had a dream about a girl whose boyfriend died and he loved her so much, he didn't want to leave her. When I woke up, I had this strong sense of love, and I thought, what if I write a ghost story that is a different kind of ghost story, one that isn't necessarily scary? I went to the computer and started writing - the pull to write it was just really strong. It ended up being a story of love and loss, healing and hope and although I had doubts along the way, I wanted to see how it turned out for Ava, and that's why I finished writing it. It took me about six weeks to write the first draft and then I revised on and off for a few months after that. It had a lot of rejections, but it eventually found one editor who fell in love with it. And I'm still, eight years later, so grateful to him. Thanks for the questions! Lisa
