How did you get started writing children's books? Why did you decide to write in rhyme?

Katelyn Sinclair I had just finished writing a Great American Novel that was not especially great, and I wanted to try something completely different. And I had always enjoyed writing rhymed poetry — it's notoriously difficult, but I love a challenge — and of course kids are a natural audience for that. My own inner child is still very much alive and well (and quite silly), so I also thought it would be a lot of fun. And it is! It's also very hard work, but I absolutely love it.
