I think we all from the start knew that Maven was very capable of his actions. Anyone can betray. Those words alone was a constant foreshadow throughout the book. Cal seemed to be doing the right thing as an heir to the throne where Maven was in the shadows. The shadows are always hiding something more sinster. I don't hate Maven though. I take my hat off to him. It was well played. Now, it's Mare's move and I'm only hoping when I read Glass Sword that she and Cal have learned from their mistakes. (less)
