I find pretty much everything challenging in writing, but I'm an extremely stubborn person, so challenges usually just make me want to push on and defeat them.
My inspiration comes from everywhere--bits of stories on NPR, tidbits in the newspaper, a book I couldn't put down, an experience I have with my family. I keep a list of notes in my phone, and write down anything that strikes me there :O)
